I used to be a beekeeper

I wrote this 2 weeks ago, but I’m just now posting it. I’ve been afraid that it’s too heavy or uninteresting. You know, this is a photography-blog right? Shouldn’t I post more photo related things? Well, days later, it’s still with me, so here it is.

I went to the hive today and found that over the past few months— when normally the bees bunch together, keep warm, and eat honey — something went wrong. What used to be a bustling home to 500,000 busy little friends is now their mausoleum. Two years of labor, sweat, near catastrophes, and (of course) bee-stings, and now the bees are no longer. I don’t know if it was a disease, parasites, pesticides, or something else. Colony Collapse Disorder has taken another colony. I’m pretty sad about it.

I used to be a beekeeper.

So here’s to the bees, the bee stings, and the sweet goodness they gave me.
